The Copper Coin Returns
January 2029
The air stirred up in anticipation and held its breath.
Their demands had been answered. The penny had been restored to its rightful place in the pocket and in the coin bag. Once again it came off the production line and fell into bank rolls. Banks were handing them over, shops were taking them, coin collecting machines were eating them up, and by Jove, the world was better off with the penny back!
The penny should be immediately restored and put back into production. Achieved!
The penny should switch sizes with the dime, and the new size for the penny should become 0.725 inches in diameter. Achieved!
Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president, should be put on the penny. Achieved!
The air let its pent-up breath go, and Old Glory danced.
