A Review of Omarchy Quattro
Alternative Title: How I conquered Linux (I installed Omarchy…send help)
Back in May of 2026, I tried out Omarchy on my laptop after watching this video because I'd been wanting to try out Hyprland and this looked like the easiest way to try it. Now with Omarchy Quattro out, I feel its a good time to talk about it.
Here's a 55 word review: I really like Omarchy. I can't quite say I love it yet for reasons I'll get into later, but as of right now, I think it's a great operating system. I currently use it only on my laptop because I'm still running Windows 10 on my PC (I'm clinging on for as long as possible)!
Despite what I just wrote, I know I'm not the target audience for Omarchy. "Developed by developers for developers" is one of the taglines halfway down the homepage, and I am not a developer nor a programmer. I'm a writer who built a PC once and can fix some Windows related problems.
I can use the terminal but I don't have a favorite terminal (like Alacritty or Kitty), and I don't know how to use Neovim or Emacs. I write in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Obsidian. I like having nice GUIs or a clean TUI that let's me easily change what I want without having to go rooting around in the files and open Lazyvim to change caps lock functionality only to find out it didn't work.
For these reasons, Omarchy isn't as user-friendly as I would want it to be. Luckily there are some plugins I've found that ameliorate that problem slightly. Still, with all that in mind, I like that Omarchy is a light-weight operating system and I like Hyprland.
Onto the plugins, after--
A Short Caps Lock Rant
I despise caps lock being anything other than a regular caps lock key because I actually use it. (For fiction writing, I put headings in all caps, screenwriting format uses caps for scenes and character names, and there’s also times when you just want a character to bellow.) Having xcompose seems great, but why can't it be on Super + R. Alt or Super + \? Shift + Caps Lock, which is supposed to restore regular functionality, also doesn't work for me.
And while you can revert caps lock back to its regular functionality, I personally have not managed to do it. I tried doing it through LazyVim and I tried using a plugin that didn't work; I can't figure out how to get my precious caps lock key back.
Also, and this is a nitpick and has nothing to do with caps lock, but I think it’s weird the file manager has the pictures and video folders pinned, but not documents and music.
Plugins
Arguably the best thing about Omarchy are the community made plugins allowing you to easily modify the OS to however you see fit.
When you find a plugin you're interested in, I recommend going over to the actual GitHub page, because there'll be a lot more information about what the plugin does, how to install it, how to customize it, etc. than is available on the plugins page itself. Most of the plugin pages are unhelpful, giving only a brief, oftentimes opaque description of what the plugin does, sometimes no image, and very little in the way of instructions in how to use it after you install the plugin (and in one instance, not the correct way to install the plugin).
Below are the plugins I use, and some other ones I think are cool but haven't used either because I don't necessarily need them or haven't tried them.
Omarchy Keybinding Editor

This plugin gives you a nice UI to change the default Omarchy keybinds to whatever your heart desires. Very helpful for someone like me who doesn't know how to use LazyVim, let alone know where the configs file is located or how to open it in Vim.
For example, I used this to change Super + W to Super + Q, which closes windows. In the Omarchy Manual it says that both Super + W and Super + Q work, but the latter didn't for me. I also think Q makes more sense than W to close stuff (even though Ctrl + W closes tabs in browsers and other things; I guess I might be able to change that keybind in Firefox...hm, I'll have to look into that).

I think it's crazy that Omarchy didn't ship with a better lockscreen picker. The default one is just lackluster. This one gives you a good amount of options and the ability to customize them or make your own if you want too. I highly recommend you try it out.

Here's another plugin that Omarchy should've shipped with: rotating wallpapers. I also think its weird backgrounds are locked behind specific themes. This liberates that weird design flaw.

I could not get this plugin to work. I don't know what I did wrong, either.
Wrapping Up
With new plugins being release every day it seems like, I'm sure in no time I'll have my perfect operating system where I don't have to use Lazyvim and I get my precious caps lock back

All in all, I'd rate Omarchy Quattro a solid 8/10.
