The Thinking Machine Speaks

The attendant to the Thinking Machine flicked the switches and pulled the lever then stepped back. The engineers off to the side nervously bit their fingernails.

The Machine whirred and hissed and vibrated. Then it stopped. A scratching emitted from the gramophone horn, then a mechanical voice spoke from it.

The audience held their breath for a moment, then erupted in applause and whistling. The future had arrived early; Progress had been made!
